This quote, allegedly by the artist Joseph Beuys, captured the spirit of this year’s Config Europe in London perfectly. For our CEO Christian Hanke and the international design leadership community, it wasn’t just about tool updates — it was about the power of human connection.
From thought-provoking discussions to street art tours through East London, Config was a reminder of why we love what we do. It was a week of late-night design debates and fresh perspectives on the future of UX, spent among old and new friends from the global design community.
A personal highlight was a bit of a “full circle” moment: five years ago, at the very first European Config, our former colleagues Sergej and Martina gave a brilliant talk on multi-brand design systems. Back then, it was a hot topic; today, it’s the backbone of how we build scalable digital identities.
The Human Connection
In a world increasingly driven by automation, meeting so many brilliant minds in person reaffirmed one thing: design is — and always has been — a conversation between people. Whether it was in the official workshops or during a casual chat over coffee, the energy of the community was infectious. A huge thank you to the Figma team for hosting such an inspiring bunch of people.
Looking Ahead We’re heading back to our desks with full notebooks and fresh inspiration. The discussions we had in London about the role of design in today’s world will undoubtedly find their way into our upcoming projects.
