"How does democracy look and feel in the digital age?" This was the question we set out to answer when we partnered with the City of Leipzig. Today, we are proud to announce that the new digital-first corporate identity and the redesigned Leipzig.de portal are officially live.

Leipzig is a city of rapid growth and vibrant energy. To match this, we moved away from bureaucratic hierarchies and toward a system built for the realities of everyday life. The result is a future-ready infrastructure that makes navigating city services noticeably easier for everyone.

Designed for Daily Life

People don’t think in administrative departments; they think in topics. That’s why the new Leipzig.de prioritizes thematic entry points and a powerful, intuitive search tool. We’ve turned a complex web of 400+ subtopics into a streamlined, accessible service portal that serves as both a communication platform and a practical tool for the city’s 600,000+ residents.

A Scalable Identity

  • Beyond the portal, we developed a distinctive digital brand infrastructure, including:

  • An Exclusive Typeface: Developed with Type By, this bespoke font is an economical and stylish solution for the city’s 9,000 employees.

  • A Modern Icon: A reinterpretation of the classic Meißner Lion, bridging Leipzig’s heritage with a confident, digital-first future.

  • A Unified Brand Portal: Providing templates and guidelines to ensure consistency across all municipal channels.

Building the Future Together

This launch is the result of a deeply participatory process, involving stakeholders from across the city to ensure the new identity is as democratic as the city itself. It’s a proud moment for Edenspiekermann to see this vision finally reach the streets—and screens—of Leipzig.

What’s Next?

As the rollout continues and more municipal services are integrated, we’ll be monitoring how the system evolves in the wild. This is just the beginning of a more accessible, transparent, and connected Leipzig. Stay tuned for more updates on our work in the public sector.
